ABOUT THIS SITE
Hey there, my dears! Long time no see! Do you remember me? It's your old Uncle Junk, and I'm back from the dead, super happy to keep chatting with all of you about what we're passionate about: collecting. As you've probably noticed, this new space hasn't just gotten a facelift, it's got a new name too! We've left behind the nostalgic original blog, "Basura Invaluable" (from now on "Priceless Trash,") and now we'll be navigating these tricky waters under the banner of KIKAI. This is a whole thematic world where, if you want to join me, we'll be diving into and checking out different pieces from the collection. These pieces will take us (or not!) through various topics, from different angles. Some will be more in-depth and elaborate than others, but always from the perspective of (or using as an excuse for) collecting.
For those of you just joining us, let me give you a quick rundown: Exactly ten years ago, while contemplating suicide for the eighth time in my (then) very short life, I had an epiphany: Why should I die alone with my obsessions, when I could share them with the world? If I could just spread a little bit of those unhealthy passions that had me on the verge of collapse, I'd feel like a complete person in this absurd existence. Without hesitation, I untied the rope from my neck, and before the block of ice I was standing on completely melted, I decided to use what was left for a delicious and refreshing melon water. Then, I got to work.
KIKAI: A Shared Passion
The intention of that original blog, and this new space, is the same: to share. KIKAI Bijutsukan doesn't aim to be a "cornerstone" in the niche, or brag about having the "best" collection ever assembled, or be the ultimate authority on any subject, or anything like that. Just like "Priceless Trash," the only goal, if any, is to celebrate and spread our joy and passion for finding and treasuring pieces that mean and evoke something for us. Plus, the administrators are totally clueless, so there's not much more to offer (we have no idea how they even managed to find couples).
The original blog will stay alive in the museum, so little by little, you'll find revised versions of the original entries right here. The publishing process, at first, will be a bit stop-and-go: one completely new entry, then an entry recovered from the original blog, then another new one, and so on. This will continue until we've gone through the entire old blog. It goes without saying that you're more than invited, no, obligated, to leave your mark on the museum. If any of the pieces evoke something in you, feel free to comment, share your thoughts, your memories, your experiences. In the end, there's nothing more enriching than that (even if it's cliché to say), because throughout your journey here, you'll find personal experiences and anecdotes that will mutually enrich those of all of you.
We hope you enjoy this new space as much as we enjoyed creating it for you. I couldn't leave out a touch of nostalgia, so I want to sign off with the same closing phrase I used the day I wrote the welcome text for the original blog ten years ago:
"Signing off, but not before thanking anyone who actually took the trouble to read this. Seriously, I admire you. Your eyes must be burning from all that reading. Better go do something productive now, like COLLECT something. Haven't done it yet...? What the hell are you waiting for?!"
